DESCRIPTION :
A candidate has to meet the requirements of article 113 and article 116 of the Act of 20 July 2018 ‒ Law on Higher Education and Science (The Official Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742, with amendments) and the Statute of the University of Lodz.
We are looking for a researcher who demonstrate motivation and positive energy, as well as abilities to work in the international research team. The selected researcher will be involved in the project “Travellers versus homelovers – global biogeography patterns of deep-sea”. Its aim is to reveal if ecological niche of benthic Amphipoda influences their geographic distribution and population connectivity. The project merges taxonomy (integrative taxonomy and description of species new to science) with molecular studies including population genetics and reconstruction of phylogeny of chosen amphipod families.
REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a PhD degree recognized in Poland obtained not earlier than 7 years since the call announcement (*) in the field of biology, genetics, evolutionary ecology or a related field or a document confirming the award of a doctoral degree;
- Be fluent in written and spoken English;
- Substantial experience in working with crustacean (preferably Amphipoda) morphology, supported with publications ;
- Have experience working in a molecular biology laboratory (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, PCR);
- Have scientific experience supported with publications from JCR database related to project specialization, in at least 2 publications, the candidate should be the first and/or corresponding author;
- Have good interpersonal skills, experience in working as part of a research team, be able to work independently.
(*) this period may be extended of the time of long-term (over 90 days) proved sick leaves or rehabilitation periods associated with incapacity of work. Additionally to that period one can add the number of months of maternity/paternity leave, in case of woman – 18 months for each child (born or adopted), if such documentation of the break in the scientific career is more beneficial.
Additional advantages are:
- experience in molecular data analysis including the ones obtained from 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing;
- knowledge of the programs used for ecological niche modelling;
- knowledge of invertebrate systematics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- conducting and participating in scientific research and development work;
- dissemination of scientific results or development of research by publishing in scientific journals included in the Journal Citation Reports list;
- improvement of their own professional qualifications and abilities;
- active participation in conferences, scientific seminars and research stages associated with project realization
- showing initiative in organizing and improving efficiency of the own work and that of the team/unit;
- other organizational duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Main tasks of the candidate:
- Morphological identification and analysis of Amphipoda.
- Material sorting and management (including databases).
- Isolation of DNA, amplification of chosen genes, analysis of sequences obtained
- Preparation of publications and conference presentations.
- General support in various tasks related to project.
