Who are we looking for
The primary duties of the Assistant Professor will include:
• conducting research in the field of 19th- and 20th-century art history, with particular emphasis on the art of German-speaking countries, Jewish art, and issues of identity, memory, and historical context in modern and contemporary art;
• developing research on contemporary and newest art, including generative art, art–technology relations, and the use of artificial intelligence in artistic practices;
• conducting research and implementation activities related to access to and dissemination of art for people with disabilities, in particular persons with sensory impairments, as well as outreach activities addressed to senior citizens;
• teaching courses (lectures, classes, and seminars) in the following areas:
o art history of the 19th–21st centuries,
o color theory,
o Jewish art,
o methods of providing access to art for people with disabilities,
o issues of contemporary art and new media;
• conducting field classes, including study trips and on-site academic courses for art history students;
• active participation in the organizational life of the Department and the Institute, including work in research teams, organizing academic conferences, cooperation with cultural institutions, and projects promoting science and scholarship.
Requirements for candidates
Candidates are expected to:
• hold a PhD degree in the humanities in the discipline of history or art history;
• have a documented scholarly output in the field of 19th- and 20th-century art history, with particular emphasis on the art of German-speaking countries, Jewish art, and issues related to cultural inclusivity and accessibility;
• demonstrate a research specialization encompassing contemporary art, including generative art, art–technology relations, and color theory;
• have experience in the implementation of research and applied projects, including projects funded from national or international sources (e.g. NCBR, NCN, UNIC, or projects of a similar nature);
• have at least one scholarly publication published within the last two years in a highly ranked journal from the MEiN list;
• have documented teaching experience in higher education;
• have experience in conducting and organizing field classes and academic study trips;
• have completed courses and training improving the teaching skills of an academic teacher;
• demonstrate a good command of English and German, both spoken and written, enabling publication in English- and German-language journals, participation in international conferences and research-and-teaching grants, as well as teaching courses in these languages;
• have documented experience in working with people with disabilities and in activities popularizing knowledge of art, including initiatives addressed to senior citizens;
• actively participate in national and international academic conferences.
Additional assets
The following will be considered an advantage:
• experience resulting from archival research conducted in Poland or abroad;
• engagement in cooperation with museums, art galleries, and cultural institutions;
• experience in organizing academic and outreach events;
• activity in promoting the university unit and its research projects.

The candidate must meet the condition of no criminal record for the crimes specified in Chapter XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for the prohibited acts specified in foreign law corresponding to these crimes.
