Who are we looking for
DESCRIPTION :
The position will involve conducting both research and teaching activities at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Łódź, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of biological sciences and to the education of students.
REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate for the above-mentioned position should demonstrate an impeccable ethical attitude and meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (as amended), as well as the Statute of the University of Łódź.
The candidate must meet the requirement of having no criminal record for offences specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code, as well as in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (consolidated text: Journal of Laws 2023, item 1939), and for corresponding offences defined under foreign law.

The candidate should meet the following criteria and have the following:
- a Doctoral degree in the field of natural sciences, in the discipline of biological sciences, earth and environmental sciences, or related disciplines (recognized in Poland);
- experience in the implementation of research in the national and international arena on the application of bio-, phyto- and rhizoremediation techniques to improve environmental quality;
- ability to use methods of detection of contaminants in the environment (chromatographic analysis, immunoenzymatic analysis, molecular markers);
- ability to use methods of molecular and biochemical analysis of environmental matrices (soil, water, microorganisms, plants);
- ability to use methods of ecotoxicological analysis;
- ability to analyze data using mathematical and statistical tools;
- proficiency in Polish and English to an advanced degree for conversation and preparation of scientific publications;
- 700 pts. MEiN from JCR publications ≥ 100 pts. MEiN or patents, including at least two publication ≥ 100 pts. MEiN as first author or correspondent author;
- experience in teaching activities;
- experience in leading or participating (as principal investigators or team member) in research projects funded from external sources;
- international mobility (scholarships/internships and research carries out in cooperation with foreign scientific institutions);
- at least 2 years of experience working in a sector related to medicine;
- experience in building relationships between the scientific communities in the fields of biological and medical sciences;
- category B driving license;
- computer literacy in the area of programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Statistica.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- analytical thinking skills;
- good communication skills and the ability to convey knowledge effectively;
- creativity and initiative in undertaking new research topics;
- responsibility and reliability in carrying out duties.
SCOPE OF DUTIES:
It is the employee’s duty to perform assigned tasks diligently and carefully, and to comply with instructions from superiors related to work, provided that they are not in conflict with applicable law. An academic teacher is obliged in particular to:
· comply with applicable laws, in particular the provisions of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2018, item 1668, as amended);
· comply with applicable internal regulations of the University of Łódź, in particular those set out in the University of Łódź Labour Regulations and the Remuneration Regulations for University of Łódź employees;
· observe applicable occupational health and safety regulations as well as fire safety regulations;
· act in the best interest of the employer, protect its property, and maintain confidentiality of information whose disclosure could expose the employer to damage;
· promptly notify supervisors of any accident or any threat to human life or health observed at the University.
Scope of duties in the area of teaching responsibilities:
- conducting teaching classes within the employment relationship in the annual teaching load determined by the Senate for full-time, part-time, and postgraduate studies, including classes delivered using distance learning methods and techniques;
- timely preparation of documentation related to the academic teaching process required of academic staff;
- participation in the development and updating of study programmes and teaching schedules;
- conducting examinations and assessments, including diploma examinations;
- supervising students’ coursework and semester assignments;
- supervising and reviewing theses;
- preparing teaching materials for classes;
- conducting student consultations, with a minimum of 2 hours per week.
Scope of duties in the area of research responsibilities:
- conducting and participating in scientific research and development work;
- obtaining research funding by applying for competitive grants;
- disseminating research results through scientific publications;
- active participation in scientific conferences and seminars, financed within departmental activities or under other University-approved arrangements;
- involvement in the commercialisation of research results (patents, protection rights, implementation).
Scope of duties in the area of organisational responsibilities:
- work in University governing bodies and in faculty, senate, and rectoral committees;
- participation in recruitment and examination committees for admission to studies;
- organisation and participation in promotional and outreach activities for the University;
- organisation of conferences, symposia, seminars, and other academic events;
- performing assigned functions, including acting as year tutor or group supervisor, supervising student research clubs and scientific camps, and overseeing student internships;
- other organisational activities aimed at improving the functioning of the University and the quality of teaching and research;
- any other organisational duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
