DESCRIPTION:

A candidate has to meet the requirements of article 113 and article 116 of the Act of 20 July 2018 ‒ Law on Higher Education and Science (The Official Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742, with amendments) and the Statute of the University of Lodz.

We are looking for a researcher who can think outside the box, demonstrate strong motivation and positive energy, as well as excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. The selected researcher will be involved in the project “EHo-ShA: Evolutionary history of shallow and deep-sea Apseudomorpha (Tanaidacea: Peracarida)”, which focuses on the study of small marine crustaceans from the Apseudomorpha group. Its implementation will: a) assess the geological time of evolution of crustaceans of the suborder Apseudomorpha, b) indicate the place of radiation of the last common ancestor of Apseudomorpha, c) determine the evolutionary relationships (phylogeny) of the families within Apseudomorpha and identify their common morphological features (apomorphies), d) identify ecological factors influencing morphological changes (adaptations), and f) estimate the geological time of colonization of the deep ocean by Apseudomorpha.

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate should meet the following criteria and have:

  1. Hold a PhD degree recognized in Poland obtained in 2016 or later in the field of biology, genetics, evolutionary ecology or a related field or a document confirming the award of a doctoral degree;
  2. Be fluent in written and spoken English;
  3. Have experience working in a molecular biology laboratory (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction, PCR);
  4. Have experience in the generation and analysis of transcriptomic/genomic data;
  5. Have good interpersonal skills, experience in working as part of a research team, be able to work independently.

Additional advantages are:

  • experience in the use of laboratory protocols in the field of molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, DNA libraries);
  • proficiency in carrying out morphological, phylogenetic and ecological analyses;
  • knowledge of invertebrate taxonomy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-conducting and participating in scientific research and development work;

-obtaining funds for scientific research by applying in competitions at national or international level;

-dissemination of scientific results or development of research by publishing in prestigious scientific journals included in the Journal Citation Reports list;

-improvement of their own professional qualifications and abilities, including obtaining further academic degrees and titles;

-participation in international mobility for research purposes;

-supervision of technical staff and students;

-showing initiative in organizing and improving efficiency of the own work and that of the team/unit;

-other organizational duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

The selected candidate will participate in scientific trips to museums, e.g. in Gainsville (Florida, USA), Cape Town (South Africa) and will establish cooperation with experts in the field of whole genome phylogenomics and invertebrate taxonomy.
