Who are we looking for
We are looking for a new member to join the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab and specifically the international team working on the BirdEcon project (“ A bird's-eye view of how the natural environment fits into economics: Searching for alternative paradigms by analysing bird conservation narratives”), funded by the Polish National Science Centre. This employment is for 30 months, full-time, starting – tentatively – in April 2026 (the exact date can be negotiated).
The successful candidate will be responsible for quantitative analysis within the BirdEcon project and the processing of survey data. This includes data from the surveys carried out among the general public and birdwatchers in three European countries, regarding their environmental values and pro-environmental behaviours. In addition, the successful candidate will also contribute to the conceptual work on reforming the way the environment is framed in economics, referring to multiple values of nature. The successful candidate will be involved in disseminating the project’s outputs in academic publications and international conferences. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in many other research tasks undertaken in the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab.
The successful candidate should have research experience in the field of social science and in the use of quantitative methods of analysis. The successful candidate should have very good communication and cooperation skills, as well as advanced analytical skills. Experience with text mining, systematic literature reviews and GIS-based software would be important advantages. Fluent English language skills in speaking and writing will be required for writing academic texts and delivering speeches at academic conferences, as well as for day-to-day communication within the project. Good publication record. We welcome candidates with doctoral degrees in economics, sociology, human geography, and other related disciplines.
The successful candidate is expected to undertake full-time employment at the University of Lodz as the only place of work for the duration of the project.
Salary: 140,000 PLN per year (gross).
The applicants should apply by sending the following documents:
- a personal questionnaire and statements available on the University of Lodz website https://www.uni.lodz.pl/kariera
- a cover letter addressed to the Rector of the University of Lodz, stating your interest in the project and the tasks
- a copy of the PhD diploma and any other diplomas the applicant has obtained,
- CV, including a list of publications, main conference presentations and research projects,
- evidence of language skills (e.g. certificate),
- list of potential references.
Before starting work, the successful candidate will have to undergo a medical examination in Łódź and sign a contract.
