Who are we looking for

DESCRIPTION :

The work will involve:

- conducting scientific activities, including conducting research, publishing its results in international journals, popularizing one's own research and that of the Department's team (including participation in scientific conferences etc.), and actively seeking research funding from external sources,

- conducting teaching activities at the academic level,

- actively participating in organizational activities for the Department and Faculty.


REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate for the above position should have an impeccable ethical attitude and meet the requirements of Articles 113 and 116 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018, as amended, and the Statute of the University of Lodz.

The candidate must meet the condition of not having a criminal record for offenses specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Articles 189a and 207 of the Penal Code, and in the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction of July 29, 2005 (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939), as well as for corresponding offenses specified in foreign laws.

The candidate should meet the following criteria and have:

• PhD in the field of exact and natural sciences in the discipline of biological sciences (or related) recognized in Poland

• Extensive knowledge of the biology of pre- and historical populations, as well as osteology and paleopathology of the human skeleton

• Knowledge of methods for digitizing osteological material, e.g., through the use of scanners (laser, structured light, photogrammetric, etc.)

• Experience in conducting scientific research involving osteological materials obtained from archaeological populations

• Documented scientific achievements in the above-mentioned fields, such as scientific articles, chapters in monographs, and active participation in scientific conferences

• Use Polish at a level that allows for teaching and English at a level that allows for free communication within the scope of their specialization and publishing research results in the English-language journals

• Ability to analyze data using mathematical and statistical tools (e.g., Statistica)


ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES:

• Interest in the potential use of modern techniques in osteological research, with particular emphasis on 3D scanning

• Ability to work both in a team and individually, with good organizational skills

• Experience in research projects, both as a leader and as an investigator

• Documented international scientific collaboration (e.g., in the form of common conference presentations, publications, internships, etc.)


RESPONSIBILITIES:

It is the duty to conscientiously and diligently perform assigned tasks and to follow the instructions of superiors regarding work, provided they are not contrary to the law. Academic teachers are obligated, in particular:

• to comply with applicable laws, including in particular the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and Science;

• to comply with applicable internal regulations of the University of Lodz, including in particular those contained in the University of Lodz Work Regulations and the University of Lodz Employee Remuneration Regulations;

• to comply with applicable occupational health and safety regulations, as well as fire safety regulations;

• to care for the employer's well-being, protect their property, and maintain the confidentiality of information, the disclosure of which could expose the employer to harm;

• to immediately notify superiors of any accident or threat to human life or health observed at the University. 


Teaching duties include:

• conducting teaching classes conducted under an employment contract on an annual basis, as determined by the Senate, for full-time, part-time, and postgraduate studies, including teaching using distance learning methods and techniques;

• timely preparation of study documentation for academic teachers;

• participation in developing and updating study programs and class schedules;

• conducting examinations and final assessments, including diploma examinations;

• supervising students' final and semester papers;

• conducting and reviewing diploma theses;

• developing teaching materials for classes;

• conducting consultations with students for at least two hours per week;

• improving one's professional qualifications in the teaching activities;

• ensuring high quality of education and compliance of teaching with the principles of the internal education quality assurance system;

• performing other teaching duties assigned by the immediate superior.

Organizational duties include:

• working on the University's collegial bodies and on faculty, senate, and rectoral committees;

• working on admissions committees and examination committees during the admissions process;

• organizing and participating in promotional and presentation activities for the University;

• organizing conferences, symposia, seminars, and other academic activities;

• performing functions assigned by superiors, including: acting as a year or student group supervisor, supervising student research clubs and camps, and supervising student internships;

• other organizational activities aimed at streamlining the University's operations and improving the quality of education and research;

• other organizational duties assigned by the immediate superior.
