JOB DESCRIPTION :
Assistant professor in the research and teaching staff, with an annual teaching load of 230 hours
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Hold a Ph.D. in agricultural sciences in the discipline of forestry, or in natural sciences in the discipline of biological sciences or Earth and environmental sciences.
2. Professional experience: at least three years of work in the forestry sector, in the forestry services sector, or in the environmental protection or nature conservation sector.
3. Authoring or co-authoring at least ten peer-reviewed scientific publications in the discipline of biological or forestry sciences.
4. Teaching experience: teaching courses at the academic level in the fields of forestry, biological sciences, or Earth and environmental sciences.
5. Proficiency in English at an intermediate or advanced level. Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in the fields of forestry, biological sciences, and Earth and environmental sciences.
6. Experience in planning, conducting, and analyzing the results of scientific research and/or natural resource inventories and/or environmental monitoring.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience in research and teaching at a university.
2. Completion of courses and training programs that deepen knowledge in the areas of forestry or natural sciences and/or Earth and environmental sciences, or other fields closely related to the environment.
3. Practical skills in work organization and experience working on nature/environmental conservation in public sector institutions .
4. Experience in preparing project or grant proposals for national and international programs (e.g., NFOŚ, NCBiR , Horizon Europe).
5. Good knowledge of the Nature Conservation Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Forest Act, and the Act on Higher Education and Science.
SCOPE OF DUTIES:
Scope of responsibilities in the area of teaching duties:
• conducting classes as part of the annual teaching load specified by the Senate for full-time, part-time, and graduate programs, including fieldwork and classes using distance learning methods and techniques;
• timely preparation of the academic records required of faculty members;
• participation in the development and updating of curricula and course syllabi;
• conducting exams and assessments, including graduation exams;
• supervising students’ course assignments and term papers;
• supervising and reviewing thesis projects;
• developing teaching materials for the courses taught;
• conducting office hours with students for at least 2 hours per week;
• improving one’s professional qualifications in the areas of the courses taught;
• ensuring high-quality education and compliance of teaching activities with the principles of the internal quality assurance system;
• performing other teaching duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Scope of duties in the area of research responsibilities:
• conducting and participating in scientific research and development work;
• securing funding for scientific research by applying for grants;
• disseminating the results of scientific or development research through publication;
• actively participating in scientific conferences and seminars, funded as part of projects carried out by the unit or under other rules adopted by the University;
• participating in the commercialization of research results (patents, intellectual property rights, implementations);
• training research staff and supporting their professional development;
• improving one’s own professional qualifications, including for the purpose of obtaining further academic degrees and academic titles.
Scope of duties in the area of organizational responsibilities:
• serving on the University’s collegial bodies and on faculty, senate, and rector’s committees;
• serving on admissions and examination committees during the student admissions process;
• organizing and participating in promotional and presentation events for the University;
• organizing conferences, symposia, seminars, and other forms of academic activity;
• performing duties assigned by superiors, including roles such as year advisor or student group advisor, supervising academic clubs and research camps, and overseeing student internships;
• other organizational activities aimed at streamlining the University’s operations and improving the quality of education and research;
• other organizational duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
