KEY WORDS:

European borders, migration, biographical experiences, walking sociology, photography, biographical research.

DESCRIPTION:

The candidate for the above-mentioned position should meet the requirements of Article 113, Article 116 of the Act of 20 July 2018. Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2021, item 478 as amended) and the Statute of the University of Lodz.

The EUROBORDERWALKS This is an interdisciplinary and international research project that aims to map and analyse social phenomena and processes taking place on three borders on the periphery of the European Union affected by past and/or current crises: Croatia/Bosnia and Herzegovina; Poland/Ukraine, Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland. The project combines sociological research (conducted through participatory ethnography, autobiographical narrative interviewing and walking sociology) with the work of artists/photographers documenting the everyday reality of these areas and the people who live, work or help there. With a focus on the bottom-up perspective and the experiences of ordinary people, the research will critically reflect on the concerns of the inhabitants and the institutions of the European Union about border security, especially with regard to 'irregular' migration, growing nationalism, the threats and risks posed by the sealing of the border, but also its softness and porosity. These issues are particularly important in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the UK's exit from the EU, and should involve a review of fair mobility, refugee and consequently EU social policy planning.
