Who are we looking for

DESCRIPTION :

The position involves conducting scientific research and teaching activities at the academic level. The appointed person will participate in research projects in the field of molecular biology, proteomic and transcriptomic analyses, covering methods such as in vitro cell cultures, flow cytometry, gene expression analysis, genotyping, NGS, Western blot, ELISA, and Luminex.

The main scientific responsibilities include conducting experimental research, performing statistical analysis of results, and preparing scientific publications. Additionally, the Assistant Professor will be engaged in obtaining funding for research through grant applications submitted to national and international research funding institutions.

In terms of teaching responsibilities, the appointed person will conduct courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, and analytical methods used in biological research. The Assistant Professor will also supervise students preparing their bachelor’s and master’s theses and participate in the organizational activities of the Department.

The candidate should demonstrate a high level of commitment to scientific work, motivation to conduct research, systematic work ethic, independence, and the ability to work in a team.

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate for the above position should have an impeccable ethical attitude and meet the requirements of Articles 113 and 116 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018. (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571) and the Statute of the University of Lodz.

The candidate must meet the condition of not having a criminal record for offenses specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Articles 189a and 207 of the Penal Code, and in the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction of July 29, 2005 (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939), as well as for corresponding offenses specified in foreign laws.

The candidate should meet the following criteria and possess:


  1. A PhD degree recognized in Poland obtained no earlier than 7 years before the announcement year (*) in Biology, Medical Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field, or a document confirming the award of a PhD degree.
  2. Competence in conducting scientific research in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and cell cultures.
  3. Experience in laboratory techniques used in molecular biology.
  4. Teaching experience.
  5. Fluency in English and Polish (spoken and written).
  6. A scientific track record documented by authorship of publications in leading JCR-listed scientific journals ( a total score of at least 300 points from the Polish Ministry of Education and Science ).
  7. Organizational skills.
  8. Experience as a researcher in externally funded research projects.
  9. Interpersonal skills, experience working in a research team, and the ability to work independently.

(*) This period may be extended for time spent on long-term medical leave (over 90 days), rehabilitation benefits, or parental leave as specified in the Polish Labor Code. In the case of women, an additional 18 months per child (born or adopted) may be added if this method of accounting for career interruptions is more favorable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate is expected to provide:

·         performing duties in accordance with the University and Faculty strategy;

·         conducting teaching activities and preparing course materials;

·         ensuring high-quality education;

·         conducting and participating in scientific research and development projects;

·         securing funding for scientific research by applying for national and international grants;

·         disseminating research findings through publications in leading scientific journals listed in Journal Citation Reports;

·         engaging in international research mobility;

·         taking initiative in organizing and improving individual and team performance;

·         performing other administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor.
