invites applications for a post-doc position under the NCN SONATA BIS 13 grant:

Project Title:
Biography and Academic Imaginarium: The Polish Intellectual Diaspora in the Autobiographies of Migrant Scholars
(2023/50/E/HS6/00189)

Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher (1 position) at the Department of Cultural Sociology, University of Łódź

Employment: Full-time (1.0 FTE), temporary replacement (with the possibility of extension).

Scope of Work:

  1. Conducting 20 autobiographical narrative interviews,
  2. Digitizing and archiving materials (personal documents of migrant scholars),
  3. Participating in the analysis of narrative interviews (regular seminars – at least twice a week),
  4. Coding personal documents using Atlas.ti (minimum 50 sources of varying length),
  5. Coordinating a competition for autobiographical memoirs,
  6. Managing the project website and the article database,
  7. Preparing a manuscript for publication in English or two conference presentations.


Requirements:

  • A PhD in sociology, history, journalism, or a related discipline,
  • Fulfillment of the formal eligibility criteria of the NCN for post-doctoral positions,
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software (e.g., Atlas.ti),
  • Excellent command of Polish and proficiency in English,
  • Additional assets:
    • Academic experience abroad,
    • International publications on migration or higher education.


The candidate must also meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116 of the Act of July 20, 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended), and in the Statute of the University of Łódź, taking into account Article 246(5) of the Act of July 3, 2018 – Provisions introducing the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571).

The applicant must meet the condition of not having a criminal record with respect to the offenses specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Art. 189a and 207 of the Penal Code, and in the Act of July 29, 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939), as well as the corresponding offenses specified in foreign laws.

Compensation: PLN 70,000 gross-gross for the full 6-month contract (with the possibility of extension).

Employment Start Date: No earlier than June 1, 2025, and no later than September 1, 2025.
