Description:

Candidates should meet the requirements of Article 113, Article 116 of the Law of 20 July 2018. Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2018, item 1668).

All applicants should have:

 

– PhD obtained from an institution other than UŁ (or from UŁ if he or she completed a post-doctoral research stay abroad of at least 10 months), not earlier than 7 years before the start of the employment [excluding sick or maternity leaves – see NCN regulations at https://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2024/uchwala86_2024-zal1.pdf], in social sciences (preferably in political and administrative sciences or international relations);

– scientific achievements documented by publications in peer-reviewed international academic journals (publications should be attached to the documentation);

– knowledge of issues in international political relations;

– ability to conduct scientific research using quantitative methods;

– proficiency in English at least at the C1 level; knowledge of Polish will be an additional advantage;

– ability to work in a team.

 

Job description

The responsibilities of the person employed in the post-doctoral position within the project Bilateral Relations Index: Quantitative analysis of interstate relations funded by the National Science Centre under the OPUS 27 competition, will include:

  • Acquiring quantitative data on bilateral relations based on publicly available or project team-accessible databases, such as: Correlates of War Militarized Interstate Disputes, SIPRI Arms Transfers, Correlates of War Formal Alliances, Correlates of War Defense Cooperation Agreements, Global Sanctions Database, World Bank Datasets, World Trade Organization Datasets, Diplometrics UN Voting Coincidence, Diplometrics Country & Organization Leader Travel, Diplometrics Diplomatic Representation, etc. The task will also involve searching for additional relevant data sources and databases.
  • Individual data collection and coding.
  • Processing the acquired quantitative data to enable necessary calculations.
  • Gathering qualitative data on bilateral relations between selected pairs of states through desk research.
  • Participating in project team meetings in Lodz;
  • Monitoring academic publications in both national and international journals.
  • Preparing academic publications.


This position requires a significant time commitment.

 

Employment Restrictions in the Project

- During the period of receiving remuneration from the project, the employed person cannot be employed by another employer under an employment contract, including employers based outside of Poland.

- During the period of receiving remuneration from the project, the employed person cannot receive additional remuneration from direct costs of research projects funded under National Science Centre (NCN) competitions.

- A reference letter from the doctoral dissertation supervisor or from a superior at the previous place of employment (only for research institutions),

- If applicable, documents confirming completed trainings, courses, certifications, etc.

The documentation must include the following sentence: "I consent to the processing of my personal data by the University of Łódź contained in my recruitment application for future recruitment purposes."
