Who are we looking for

We seek candidates who take innovative approaches to address fundamental ecological questions regarding aquatic invertebrate animals through the study of their physiology, genetics and morpho-anatomy. The successful candidate would integrate physiology at the organismal level with molecular, biochemical, cellular biology, and environmental physiology. A comparative and evolutionary approach is encouraged. We seek applicants with a long-term international experience, ability to work in research teams, also with students at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Main tasks of the adjunct will focus on:

  1. Plan, set up and carry out lab-based experiments to study the cellular and physiological mechanisms responsible for enabling aquatic animals to adapt to, or survive in, changing or challenging environmental conditions
  2. DNA and RNA handling, focusing on the expression of target genes
  3. Morphological analysis through microscopy techniques
  4. Morphological identification and dissection of aquatic macroinvertebrates
  5. Preparation of publications, conference presentations and grant proposals
  6. Active participation to other ongoing projects of the team

The candidate should meet the following criteria and have:

  1. Doctoral degree in biology or related (valid in Poland)
  2. Experience in fieldwork set up and experimental design
  3. Research experience in eco-physiology/genetics evidenced by articles in JCR-listed journals, published during the last 2 years regarding topics related to the contest
  4. Advanced knowledge of comparative invertebrate morphology
  5. Experience in standard and advanced microscopy techniques (CLSM, histology and immunostaining)
  6. Substantial molecular laboratory experience (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning and sequencing)
  7. Basic knowledge of bioinformatics
  8. Experience in work with international research teams, with at least 2 year-long research experience abroad
  9. High motivation and enthusiasm to scientific work
