Who are we looking for

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

• hold a master’s degree in physics, materials engineering, or a related field;

• be enrolled as a doctoral student at a doctoral school and have a research record indicating the ability to defend their PhD thesis by the end of 2026 in the discipline of physical sciences;

• be proficient in Polish, both spoken and written;

• be proficient in English, both spoken and written, with the ability to write scientific texts in English;

• have experience in implementing and/or applying for research projects;

• have documented experience in conducting experimental research in surface physics using scanning probe microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy techniques;

• have documented (including as a leading author) publication experience in research on metal oxides, particularly in the synthesis and characterization of thin films;

• additional assets include documented experience in presenting scientific results at specialized international conferences, research experience with molybdenum oxide–based materials, and experience in Kelvin probe atomic force microscopy measurements.

- a copy of the Master diploma;

- declaration that the University of Lodz will be the candidate’s primary employer once they are employed, according to the regulation “The law on higher education and science”, 

- an account of the previous research (publications, conferences, research fellowships etc.), teaching and organizational achievements.

The candidate must meet the condition of no criminal record for the crimes specified in Chapter XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for the prohibited acts specified in foreign law corresponding to these crimes.

We reserve the right to leave the candidate's application without consideration in the case of failure to submit the above declarations by the recruitment deadline.


Expected scope of responsibilities

1. The obligation of an academic teacher is to conscientiously and diligently perform the assigned tasks and to follow the work-related orders of superiors, unless they are contrary to the law. An academic teacher is obliged in particular to:

1) comply with applicable legal provisions, in particular the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and Science (consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742);

2) comply with the applicable provisions of internal law of the University of Lodz, in particular those contained in the Work Regulations of the University of Lodz and the Regulations on the remuneration of University of Lodz employees;

3) comply with applicable occupational health and safety rules, as well as fire safety regulations;

4) take care of the good of the employer, protect his property and keep secret any information the disclosure of which could expose the employer to damage;

5) immediately notify superiors of any accident or threat to human life or health noticed at the university.

2. Scope of responsibilities at the position held:

1) in terms of teaching duties:

a) conducting teaching classes carried out as part of an employment relationship on an annual basis, as determined by the Senate, for full-time, part-time and postgraduate studies;

b) timely preparation of study documentation for academic teachers;

c) conducting examinations and tests, including diploma examinations;

d) conducting and reviewing diploma theses;

e) developing teaching materials for classes;

f) conducting consultations with students, 2 hours a week;

g) ensuring high quality of education and compliance of teaching work with the principles of the internal education quality assurance system;

2) within the scope of scientific duties:

a) conducting and participating in scientific research and development work;

b) obtaining funds for scientific research by applying in competitions;

c) dissemination of the results of scientific research or development by publishing the results;

d) active participation in conferences and scientific seminars, financed as part of the tasks carried out by the unit or on other principles adopted at the university;

e) participation in the commercialization of research results (patents, protection rights, implementations);

3) in terms of organizational responsibilities:

a) work in collegial bodies of universities and in faculty, senate and rector's committees;

b) work on recruitment committees and examination committees in the recruitment process for studies;

c) performing functions assigned by superiors, including: the role of a year tutor or a student group tutor, supervision of scientific clubs and research camps, supervision of students' professional internships;

f) other organizational activities aimed at improving the functioning of the university, improving the quality of education and scientific research;
