Requirements

Applications for the position of Research Assistant (F/M) at the Institute of Romance Studies, University of Łódź, are open to candidates who: 

- hold a Master’s degree in Romance Philology; 

- hold a PhD in linguistics or have successfully defended their doctoral thesis; 

- have experience in teaching French and Spanish as foreign languages at an academic level; 

- are familiar with contemporary teaching techniques using modern technologies; 

- have experience of working on and coordinating tasks within international research projects; 

– have a command of Polish at C2 level or are a native speaker of Polish; 

– possess the ability to work in a team, as well as being systematic and conscientious. 

Responsibilities of the Candidate

1. in the field of research – active participation in academic conferences and the regular publication of original monographs and academic articles in academic journals and publications listed in the updatedregister of academic journals and publications maintained by the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN), as well as applying for research grants; 

2. in terms of teaching – delivering practical French and Spanish language classes and specialist courses in French linguistics (grammar, descriptive grammar, translation), leading a bachelor’s seminar in French linguistics, coordinating classes with the Department of Modern Languages, and supervising selected groups of students; 

3. in terms of organisational work – active involvement in organisational activities for the department, institute and faculty. 

Additional advantages include

– experience in securing international research scholarships; 

– experience in applying for research grants; 

– experience in editing monographs and/or academic journals; 

– experience in organising conferences, workshops and other academic events; 

– experience in teaching at a higher education institution; 

– experience in developing materials for teaching French and Spanish; 

– experience in using IT tools for corpus analysis; 

– experience in conducting linguistic research on a literary corpus; 

– experience in working with text translation. 

Date of the competition's outcome: 21 May 2026 

The candidate must meet the requirement of having no criminal record for offences specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Criminal Code, in Articles 189a and 207 of the Criminal Code, and in the Act of 29 July2005 on counteracting drug addiction (i.e. Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for prohibited acts corresponding to these offences as defined in the provisions of foreign law.

  • a copy of the doctoral degree certificate or the committee’s decision approving the public defence of the doctoral thesis;

  • The successful candidate is required to submit, prior to taking up employment, a certificate of no criminal record from the National Court Register issued no earlier than 6 months prior to the date of submission to the University of Łódź. 

The University of Łódź does not reimburse travel and accommodation costs.
