Doctoral student scholarship, Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz
This is an NCN-funded, four-year scholarship for a student who will be enrolled in the University of Lodz Doctoral School of Humanities. The scholarship is part of the OPUS grant: Aida – Attitude and Identity in Argumentation. This project will explore functions of argumentation and investigate the role of speaker identity in argumentative discourse. All research tasks will be carried out in English. The project is hosted by the Department of English and General Linguistics.
The scholarship would begin in October, 2023.
Requirements:
MA degree in linguistics, philosophy or a related field.
Must fulfil the entrance requirements for the University of Lodz Doctoral School of Humanities.
Ready to write a doctoral thesis on a topic closely connected to the themes of the project.
Interest in the field of Argumentation.
Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
Knowledge of Polish an advantage.
Description of tasks:
The successful candidate will carry out research tasks and assist the Principal Investigator at all levels of the project.
This means in particular:
1. Corpus annotation
2. Corpus building
3. Preparation of papers and presentations
4. Organisation of workshops and visits
5. Testing of CAPNA evaluation tool
6. Presentation of project work at conferences
The student must also pursue their own research on a topic related to the themes of the project and remain within the doctoral school for the duration of the scholarship.
Terms of employment:
4-year scholarship of 4000 PLN (gross) per month
Office space within the faculty
