Who are we looking for
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- hold a PhD in physical sciences;
- be able to communicate in Polish both orally and in writing;
- be fluent in English both orally and in writing, and have the ability to write scientific texts in English;
- possess a good knowledge of modern dynamical systems theory, including the application of geometry to the study of such systems;
- ability to work with the LaTeX editor and good knowledge of Mathematica and Python would be an additional advantage;
- experience in organizing scientific conferences would also be an additional advantage.

The candidate must meet the condition of no criminal record for the crimes specified in Chapter XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for the prohibited acts specified in foreign law corresponding to these crimes.
We reserve the right to leave the candidate's application without consideration in the case of failure to submit the above declarations by the recruitment deadline.
General duties:
All academic teachers are obliged to perform the tasks entrusted to them diligently and carefully, and to comply with the instructions of persons heading the unit and their supervisors, insofar as such instructions concern work and are not contrary to the law.
An academic teacher is, in particular, obliged to:
· comply with the applicable provisions of law, including in particular the provisions of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science;
· comply with the applicable internal regulations of the University of Lodz, including in particular the Work Regulations of the University of Lodz and the Remuneration Regulations for employees of the University of Lodz;
· observe the applicable occupational health and safety rules, as well as fire safety regulations;
· take care of the employer’s interests, protect its property, and maintain confidentiality of information the disclosure of which could expose the employer to damage;
· immediately notify persons heading the unit or supervisors of any accident or threat to human life or health observed at the University of Lodz.
General scope of tasks within teaching duties (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research group):
· conducting teaching classes carried out within the employment relationship in the annual workload determined by the Senate in full-time and part-time studies and in doctoral schools, including with the use of distance learning methods and techniques;
· timely preparation of the required documentation concerning the course of studies and education in the doctoral school;
· participation in the development and updating of curricula and teaching schedules;
· conducting examinations (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research-and-teaching group in the position of research assistant);
· conducting diploma examinations (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research-and-teaching group in the position of research assistant and academic teachers employed in the teaching group in the position of foreign language teacher);
· conducting course assessments;
· supervising coursework and semester assignments of students;
· supervising and reviewing diploma theses (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research-and-teaching group in the position of research assistant);
· preparing teaching materials for the classes conducted;
· training academic staff, including in transversal skills and social competences;
· improving one’s own professional qualifications in the field of the classes conducted;
· ensuring high quality of education and compliance of teaching activities with the internal system for quality assurance in education;
· performing other teaching duties assigned by the head of the unit or a supervisor.
General scope of tasks within research duties (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the teaching group):
· conducting scientific research and development work and participating therein (where, in the case of academic teachers employed in the research group in the positions of professor, university professor or assistant professor – through the implementation of a grant, managing a research programme or participation in an international research programme, as well as authorship or co-authorship of a monograph or publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals);
· obtaining funds for scientific research by applying in competitive calls;
· publishing the results of scientific or development research;
· active participation in scientific conferences and seminars financed within the framework of tasks carried out by the unit or under other rules adopted at the University of Lodz;
· participation in the commercialisation of research results (patents, protection rights, implementations);
· training academic staff and supporting their development (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research and research-and-teaching group in the position of research assistant);
· improving one’s own professional qualifications (where, in the case of academic teachers employed in the research or research-and-teaching group in the positions of university professor or assistant professor, and academic teachers employed in the research group in the position of research assistant – also for the purpose of obtaining further academic degrees and the academic title);
· performing other duties assigned by the head of the unit or a supervisor;
· supporting participants of doctoral schools in the implementation of research and scientific development (applies to academic teachers employed in the research group in the positions of professor, university professor or assistant professor).
General scope of tasks within organisational duties:
· work in collegial bodies of the University of Lodz and in committees: faculty, Senate and Rector’s committees (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the teaching group in the position of foreign language teacher);
· work in recruitment and examination committees in the admission process to studies and doctoral school (does not apply to academic teachers employed in the research group);
· organising and participating in promotional and presentation activities for the benefit of the University of Lodz;
· organising and participating in conferences, symposia, seminars and other forms of academic activity;
· conducting consultations for a minimum of 2 hours per week;
· performing functions entrusted by a supervisor, e.g. year tutor, student group tutor, supervisor of student scientific societies and scientific camps,
supervisor of professional placements;
· performing other organisational activities aimed at improving the functioning of the University of Lodz and enhancing the quality of education and scientific research;
· performing other organisational duties assigned by the head of the unit or a supervisor.
