Who are we looking for
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- have a PhD degree in physics, astronomy or equivalent field. PhD degree must be awarded not earlier than 7 years before the 1 st of January of the year when the employment in this project starts. (This time period can be extended for long-term illness, child birth or care following the rules of attachment to NSC Board nr 50/2023, dated 11 May 2023)
- be proficient at programming
- communicate freely in English
- be experienced with X-ray and optical data analysis tools
- prior experience in modelling astrophysical sources and in studies of LIV effects is not a requirement, but it will be considered as a strong advantage
- the candidate must fulfil the formal conditions of NCN for employment on a post-doc position(https://www.ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2023/uchwala50_2023-zal1_ang.pdf, point 2.1.1)

The candidate must meet the condition of no criminal record for the crimes specified in Chapter XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939) and for the prohibited acts specified in foreign law corresponding to these crimes.
Expected scope of responsibilities:
The objective of the call is selecting a person involved in research in grant NCN 2023/50/A/ST9/00254 titled: ”Determining phenomenological parameters of Quantum Gravity via combination of very-high-energy gamma-ray observation and emission modelling of astrophysical sources” ongoing in Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of University of Lodz. The main task of this post-doc position will be performing analysis of the multiwavelength data: in particular X-ray and UV observations performed with satellite experiments (e.g. XRT and UVOT on board of Swift) as well as analysis of the ground-based optical data. The person will also prepare observational proposals, and will be involved in interpretation of this data. The person will also contribute to the LIV study via MWL modelling.
Planned date of employment (for a period of 3 years with evaluation after the first year): January 2026.
