Recruitment announcement for the position of PhD student - scholarship holder in the project entitled "BioMeTP: Biodiversity, biogeography and metatranscriptomics of endangered temporary ponds in the Mediterranean region" financed by the National Science Centre under the SONATA 19 competition.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a PhD student to join an exciting research project on the genomics & transcriptomics of key invertebrate species in freshwater environments. This fully funded PhD position at the University of Lodz offers the chance to explore biodiversity using cutting-edge molecular tools & bioinformatics.

Opis zadań/Description of tasks

1. Develop a chromosome-level genome of a freshwater invertebrate.
2. Test the effect of climate change on the survival of tolerant and sensitive species.
3. Test the differential expression of genes related to thermic stress in a few invertebrate species.
4. Apply and/or develop a pipeline for genome and transcriptome analyses.
5. Collaborate with international researchers to analyze and interpret findings.
6. Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

• Compliance with the requirements specified in the Regulations for awarding NCN research grants in research projects financed by the National Science Centre, introduced by Resolution No. 124/2022 of the Council of the National Science Centre of December 1, 2022, financed by the National Science Centre under the SONATA 19 competition.
• Excitement about science and learning more about nature.
• Master’s in Molecular Biology, Ecology, Bioinformatics, or related fields.
• Experience with DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing & bioinformatics.
• Interest in freshwater biodiversity & invertebrate genomics.
• Strong analytical & communication skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• PhD student status at the BioMedChem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz.
